In most situations of
manufacturing it is impractical to pull out the old
dial caliper and check every dimension on every manufactured
part. So specialized tools such as the plug go-no-go
gauge, ring go-no-go gauge and the snap go-no-go gauge
have been created to increase productivity in quality
control.
The plug gauges are used to check whether hole diameters
are within their specified tolerances. With the plug
go-no-go gauge one side of the gauge is made to fit
through a hole being measured (the Go) and side should
not fit (NO Go). A progressive type of plug go-no-go
gauge has the go and no go diameters on the same side.
Ring gauges are used for measuring external our outside
diameters. The go-no-go gauge ring gauges work off
of the same idea as the plug go-no-go gauges in that
on side of the ring go-no-go gauge is GO, where the
part should fit and the other side, NO GO, where the
part should not fit.
Snap Gauges serve the same purpose as the ring go-no-go
gauges except that they are adjustable and can check
the size of both internal and external diameters.
