ID grinding (inside diameter grinding)- Internal grinding is generally
done to create a precision surface finish with great
accuracy on the id (inside diameters). With this
method the work piece is mounted in a chuck to allow
rotation during the grinding operation. With this
process the grinding wheel will move in and out of
the inside diameter to remove material and achieve
the dimensions and finish the customer requests.
OD grinding (outside diameter grinding)- Outside
diameter or external grinding is the opposite id
(inside diameter) grinding. Material is generally “held” between
centers and the material is rotated as the grinding
wheel travels up and down the part. Outside diameter
grinding allows for any cylindrical work piece to
be ground to a precise dimension and finish.
